Pi Dialogue
Title: PiALOGUE: A Disambiguation Process
About Me:
I developed the concept of PiALOGUE from a need to learn the truth about life from a non-egotistical point-of-view. I learned that the nature of my own intellectuality was such that sometimes I would over-power other people's input into the dialogue and I would end up losing the benefit of their knowledge and wisdom. I learned that the dialogue needed to be participatory and not a one-sided mode of teaching. I learned to ask more questions than I made comments. My father was a Baptist minister and my mother was a Rosicrucian and “Eckist” so I had a fairly eclectic upbringing. On top of that I went to an all-black high school in the inner city, was in the military special forces, and received what I consider to be the most important lessons from Gurdjieff, Bucky Fuller, and Ayn Rand's books among others.
PiALOGUE Disambiguation Process and Mediation Technique
PiALOGUE is a disambiguation process similar to a mediation process that uses dialogue as a means of approaching a mutual understanding of what ever subject or topic is being evaluated.
PiALOGUE is written in ALL CAPS except for the lower case “i” to distinguish the word Pi as part of Pi Dialogue which became PiALOGUE. PiALOGUE began as an off-shoot of Bohm Dialogue or Dialogue in the Spirit of Bohm. Proponents of Bohm Dialogue prefer a form of free association conducted in groups, with no predefined purpose in mind other than mutual understanding and exploration of human thought with the aim to allow participants to examine their preconceptions, prejudices, and patterns of thought. PiALOGUE on the other hand has a purpose of triangulating or converging upon commonality where the participants endeavor to not only understand each other but to communicate their own knowledge and awareness with ever greater effectiveness for the people with whom they are in dialogue. PiALOGUE enables ever greater understanding of what is actual as opposed to what might only appear to be real or potentially illusionary.
The main idea is to approach greater and greater awareness of what PiALOGUE calls ”The Blue Dot” which represents a common understanding of something. When two or more people begin to talk about something it may initially appear as though they are at opposite sides of an issue. By continuing to participate in in an ongoing dialogue with each other then they have the opportunity to get closer and closer to The Blue Dot as shown in the graphic to the right. Even while it may appear at first that both parties are going in opposite directions please notice that they are still getting closer and closer to the blue line which demonstrates progress.
The PiALOGUE logo was evolved from the concept of the definition of the mathematical symbol of Pi or π and the equation that enables the determination of the area contained within a circle or sphere. If we can measure something, in this case the diameter of a circle, then we can determine the circumference of the circle which is not easily or accurately measured. Since we know that the distance of the diameter fits exactly π times (approximately 3.14… times) around the circumference of the circle we can multipy the two amounts that we do know together to obtain the third amount that we don't know. In essence, this process represents the ability to objectively determine the unknown. The radius of a circle, or half of the diameter of a circle, can fit around the inside of a circle as a straight line exactly six times. If we connect each of the six points where the radii touch the circle with the center of the circle we get six smaller triangles. Each of these six triangles represent the triangulation of integrity of a smaller portion of the whole circle (integrity in this case meaning stability as opposed to honesty). If we connect, inter-relate, or correlate, each of the center points of each of the six triangles with each of the other six center points then we get the symbol represented in pink. As you can see, this area is much harder to see than the rest of the obvious portion of the logo. This dynamic could be said to be esoteric in nature. PiALOGUE enables us to see that which is difficult or sometimes impossible to see or understand.
Here is a visual demonstration of why π = 3.14…:![]()
The connections of the lines in the PiALOGUE logo with each other, some less obvious than others, represent each point's relationship with each of the other points. The more points that you add the more complex the overall image appears and the greater the challenge with interpersonal relationships. Three points distributed on a circle form a triangle. Four points distributed on a circle form a square with a cross in the middle. Five points distributed on a circle forms a five-pointed star and six a six-pointed star. Up to four points the image is relatively simple and easy to understand. At five points of complexity we begin to lose people with our explanations and things become more esoteric or seemingly hidden. With six and above it gets exponentially more complicated and more challenging to attempt to explain. So, it is helpful to keep this dynamic in mind when attempting to express one's point-of-view with another person or group of people.
